This is what New Times had to say.
" Here at New Times Testing Lab, we don't take chances using unreliable
humans to measure doughnut appeal. Instead, we employ high-tech scientific
equipment to provide
absolute assurance of doughnut quality.
After we hooked up Iowa Cafe's homemade doughnuts to the plethysmodoughnutgraph,
the needle went right off the chart. Subsequent doughnut tastings by our
trained staff (all former
police officers) confirmed the readings: Iowa Cafes fresh baked doughnuts
are smashingly
good.
Try to get to Iowa Cafe by 9 a.m., or else there may not be any doughnuts
left. Late-risers can get around the problem by calling the evening
before and reserving a dozen (75 cents apiece for jelly doughnuts, 60 cents
for glazed).
When it comes to doughnuts, Iowa Cafe has it down to a science."

HI to all:
I just this
week, on Tues and Wed visited your restaurant for the first and the second
times. I live here in Scottsdale, and I wanted to just say Thank
You for your most wonderful restaurant. Since you are located about 12
miles from my home, I hope to visit fairly often. I love the atmosphere,
and your staff was just so cordial.
My parents, (both) were born in Iowa. I was born in Illinois.
They were born in Sumner, Iowa which is located in the NE corner.
My dad graduated from Iowa State, and I was pleased to see all the sports
stuff from there. I am presently getting the newspaper from Sumner
Iowa. Would you or anyone there in the restaurant be interested in seeing
and reading the newspaper? I most certainly would be happy to bring a copy
or copies in the next time I visit your restaurant.
Thanks for all the good food. I had the Ham Salad Sandwich the 1st visit,
and then the Taco Salad on my second trip. But I look forward to the Meatloaf.
(Meatloaf is by far, my most favorite food of all). And this leads
me to a question........What time do you start serving Dinner? So that
I can adjust my schedule to arrive in time to order the Meatloaf.
Keep up the good work, and I will see you all the next time I visit.
Your
friend............Dick Pagel
